ABOUT

The Rocktown FLASHPOINT Sport Climbing Competition is a USA Climbing sanctioned competition. The competition is open to USA climbing members AND the public.

WHY PARTICIPATE?

Climbing competitions are a great way to test your skills in a unique environment. But there's more to a climbing competition than competing. It's also a great social atmosphere - a place to meet, talk with, and hang out with friends and fellow climbers. It's an opportunity to challenge yourself on new routes and test your limits. Plus there's always the possibility that you could win something! This is a unique event to Oklahoma so why not be a part of it and see what it's all about?

HOW DOES IT WORK? [FORMAT]

The competition is divided into two sessions; Session 1 and 2 (see schedule of times below).

Session 1 is designated for all climbing categories except the advanced category and will consist of top-rope routes of varying degrees of difficulty. Session 1 is setup as a USA Climbing "Redpoint" format. Under this format routes are set prior to the competition and given a point value based on the difficulty of the climb. Points are accumulated by climbing routes WITHOUT falls or hangs. Competitors will select routes of their choosing and have five attempts to complete the route without falls/hangs. Attempts will only be used in the event of a tie-breaker. The top 5 routes a climbers completes will be used to determine their final score and category ranking. In this format, there are no time limits per climb, the atmosphere is very social, and you can climb as much or as little as you want.

Session 2 is dedicated to the Advanced category and will be a modified ONSIGHT format competition. Climbers will be allowed to view the routes prior to climbing them. Climbers will then enter an "isolation" area and be called out one by one to complete a series of 4 routes. Competitors will be given a set amount of time to climb each route with a rest period in between. The competitor may attempt the route multiple times within the alloted time but the rope must be pulled and the route re-lead. The high point of each route will be scored for the climbers total points and placement. In the event of a tie, there will be a super-finals route.

USA Climbing will award medals to the top SIX in each category and a prize raffle will be held at the end of each competition session.
